Job summary

Life Without Barriers in Perth, WA, seeks a Senior Residential Care Worker (Live In) for a permanent full-time roster of 7 days on/7 days off. You will care for up to four children aged 0–12, ensuring a safe, nurturing home with trauma-informed support and family engagement.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Social and Community Services or equivalent experience.
  • Experience delivering residential and therapeutic care to children aged 0–12.
  • Ability to build nurturing relationships with children and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 therapeutic care and supervision for up to four children aged 0–12.
  • Engage children in age-appropriate activities and routines.
  • Support family connections and encourage visits where appropriate.
  • Deliver daily living and household support including meals and transport.
  • Respond to trauma-related needs with empathy and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Follow care plans, record information, and participate in training.

Role:Senior Residential Care Worker — Live In

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time (7days on / 7days off roster)

Location:Perth, WA

Remuneration: $190,600 per year Super 5 weeks annual leave

In this role, you’ll provide care and support for up to 4 children aged 0–12 years in our temporary residential care home, creating a safe and nurturing environment where they can thrive.

Working a roster of 7 days on and 7 days off, you’ll support their wellbeing, development, and daily needs through supervision, age-appropriate activities, and positive engagement designed specifically for children in this age group.

You will be supported by a House Manager and a team of Residential Support Workers, ensuring the home runs smoothly and meets the needs of the children. Using your trauma-informed, child-focused approach, you’ll provide practical care and emotional support, helping children feel safe, respected, and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 24/7 therapeutic care and supervision for up to four children aged 0–12 years, creating a safe, nurturing and culturally responsive home that supports their growth, development and independence.
  • Act as a positive role model and engage children in age-appropriate activities such as play, creative learning and structured routines that promote self worth, social skills and emotional growth.
  • Support family and social connections by encouraging positive relationships with parents, siblings, peers and other important people and facilitating visits where appropriate.
  • Deliver daily living and household support including cleaning, transport, meal preparation and routines tailored to the needs of younger children.
  • Respond to trauma related needs and behaviours with empathy using trauma informed approaches suited to children aged 0–12 years.
  • Follow care plans to maintain high standards of care, record information accurately, collaborate with the team and participate in ongoing training.
Skills & Experience
  • Relevant Diploma or Degree level qualification in Social and Community Services or significant relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience providing residential and therapeutic care for children and young people with complex behaviours and trauma, ideally as a live-in carer
  • Proven ability to build professional nurturing relationships with children and young people between the ages of 0-12 years.
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, understanding their cultural needs and traditions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex trauma and its effects on children and young people and how it impacts their behaviour
  • Strong peer support, teamwork, problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certificates
  • A current and unrestricted driver’s licence

Experience in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) will be highly regarded.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, WA Working with Children Check and WA DCP395 Check.
