Job summary

Life Without Barriers is seeking a compassionate Residential Support Worker to join our AYRA service in Belmont. You will support young people aged 14 to 18 to build independence, manage emotions and engage with education and the wider community.

As a casual role, you will work across a 24/7 roster including overnights and weekends, delivering trauma-informed programs and mentoring to help young people achieve personal goals and safer daily living skills.

Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Youth Work, Mental Health, or equivalent (or working toward).
  • Experience supporting at-risk youth with trauma, homelessness, or AOD issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills with professional boundaries.
  • Experience with Indigenous or diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to run structured programs and life-skills activities.
  • Current Provide First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Current unrestricted Driver’s Licence.
  • Desirable: experience with behavioural management approaches.

  • Encourage and support education and community engagement.
  • Build positive relationships and mentor youth to achieve meaningful outcomes.
  • Manage behavioural escalations with trauma-informed approaches.

  • Collaborate with care team to maintain progress notes and administer medication when required.

Role: Residential Support Worker

Employment Type: Casual

Location: Belmont, WA

As a Residential Support Worker within our AYRA service, you will work alongside a dedicated to create a safe, nurturing, and homelike environment for young people aged between 14 to 18 years.

In this role, you will support young people to develop independence, manage emotions, strengthen problem solving skills, and re-engage with education and the wider community.

Drawing on your experience with at risk youth, including those affected by alcohol and other drugs, homelessness, or other complex needs, you will mentor and guide young people while facilitating structured programs and workshops focused on building practical life skills.

This service for young people operates 24/7, so applicants must be available and willing to work a varied shifts that include active overnights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support at-risk youth to achieve goals in Individual Case Plans and develop independence, including daily living skills such as cooking, housework, and laundry
  • Encourage and support young people’s interests, education, and engagement with the community
  • Build positive relationships, mentor young people, and collaborate with them to achieve meaningful outcomes
  • Manage behavioural escalations and assist with emotional regulation using trauma-informed approaches
  • Facilitate structured programs and workshops to develop practical life skills and personal growth
  • Work closely with the care team to maintain progress notes, report incidents, and administer medication when required
Skills & Experience
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work, Mental Health or other relevant qualification or a willingness to work towards.
  • Essential: Experience supporting at-risk youth who have experienced trauma, neglect, homelessness, alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues or behaviours of concern
  • Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills with the ability to maintain professional boundaries while building positive relationships
  • Experience working with young people from Indigenous or diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to facilitate structured programs, workshops and activities that develop independent living skills
  • Current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certificates
  • Current unrestricted Driver’s Licence
  • Desirable: Experience with behavioural management approaches including TCI, positive behaviour support, trauma-informed care or residential care models such as Sanctuary or CARE
