Job summary

The Kids Research Institute Australia is seeking a Senior Research Officer to contribute to its gene editing, RNA biology and mitochondrial biology program. The role involves developing and applying gene-editing approaches, cell culture, mouse work, data analysis and translational activities.

Based at Nedlands, the position is full-time on a one-year fixed-term appointment. Salary ranges from $103,000 to $111,000 plus Super.

Qualifications

• PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, cell biology or a related field.
• Expertise in gene editing or genome engineering with CRISPR/Cas or related editing approaches and mammalian cell models.
• Hands‑on experience with mouse work, in vivo design and tissue collection.
• Strong molecular and cell biology skills including cloning and mammalian cell culture.
• Strong analytical skills for experimental design and data interpretation.
• Proven ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary research environment and strong scientific writing.
• Experience with bioinformatics, R or Python is desirable.
• Expertise in mitochondrial biology including gene expression, function or disease mechanisms is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply gene-editing and RNA-based approaches relevant to mitochondrial gene expression and function.
• Undertake laboratory research involving gene editing, molecular cloning, RNA biology, mammalian cell culture, mitochondrial functional assays and mouse studies.
• Design and optimise experimental methods, analyse data and maintain rigorous research records.
• Contribute to project reports, publications, presentations and translational activities.
