Job summary

Queensland Government is seeking an AO5 Senior Ranger (Fire Support) in Mackay, Australia, to lead fire management capability, logistics, and operational readiness across the Central Region. You’ll contribute to planning and delivery of fire programs and work with stakeholders including QPWS&P and firefighting agencies.

The role balances outdoor and indoor duties, with responsibilities spanning preparedness, training, reporting and continuous improvement, and requires travel and after-hours work

Qualifications

• Fire management experience.
• Emergency management experience.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and work under pressure.
• Sound organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to travel regularly and work after hours.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate regional fire preparedness, capability and operational support.
• Support planned burning operations and bushfire response across the Region.
• Assist with fire logistics, equipment management, workforce coordination and deployment support.
• Support Regional Coordination Centre readiness and emergency response arrangements.
• Maintain fire management systems, records, reporting and documentation.
• Contribute to training, exercises, lessons management and continuous improvement.
• Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support fire management outcomes.
• Provide advice and support to regional staff on fire management planning and readiness.
