Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to lead engineering activities in Brisbane, Australia. The role covers planning, design oversight, performance reporting, and system integration within fast-paced rail projects.

Ideal candidates have a degree in Engineering or CS, 5+ years in project engineering for rail, and hands-on experience with signalling systems such as ETCS/ERTMS/CBTC, along with strong stakeholder management and agile thinking.

Qualifications

Degree in Engineering or Computer Science is required or equivalent.
5+ years of experience in a Project Engineering role, with rail, systems and signalling.
Experience in turnkey projects (within rail signalling) desirable, delivering systems such as ETCS, ERTMS and CBTC.
Experience in effective resource management and working with a large multi-cultural team.
Experience in real-time system engineering; testing and integration activities, software verification and validation best practices and safety critical techniques.
Agile mindset, able to take prompt decisions in a challenging environment.
Ability to analyse data and draw insights to inform decision-making.
Ability to form and build key stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

Planning of engineering activities in conjunction with the Project Manager, system and subsystem design teams.
Engineering management, delivery, and change management.
Design review and management.
Engineering status reporting incl. risk reviews.
Technical approvals and configuration management.
Systems engineering.
Ensuring all activities are conducted with high-level continuous improvement and safety.
