Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a registered Radiotherapy Medical Physics Expert to join the Radiotherapy Physics Group at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC). The role is based primarily at the Freeman Hospital with occasional work at Carlisle.

You will lead treatment planning support, provide clinical and scientific leadership, and mentor staff. The post requires MPE recognition or imminent eligibility and offers a competitive Agenda for Change package.

Qualifications

• First- or second-class honours degree in physics or equivalent.
• Postgraduate master’s/PhD or equivalent specialist knowledge.
• Registered Clinical Scientist with MPE recognition or imminent eligibility.
• Recognised by the Secretary of State as a Medical Physics Expert.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the treatment planning service and provide physics support to the team.
• Provide clinical, scientific and technical advice across professional groups.
• Lead on major projects and mentor staff within the radiotherapy physics group.
• Report and explain scientific/technical issues to senior staff in clear terms.
• Occasionally work at the Carlisle site in addition to Freeman Hospital.
