Job summary

Texcel is seeking a Senior Research and Development Engineer in Brisbane to lead the design, development and field validation of connected monitoring products and data solutions across hardware, firmware, software and AI. You will translate customer problems into actionable research questions and guide prototypes through verification and product release.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical, electronic, mechatronic, computer systems, software engineering or related discipline.
• 7+ years of product development experience in engineering, technology or applied research roles.
• Experience taking complex products from problem definition through prototype, verification and operational use.
• Strong systems thinking with deep expertise in at least one area (hardware, firmware or software).
• Experience with AI tools in engineering, research, data analysis or workflow automation.
• Experience with connected instruments, environmental sensing or IoT environments.
• Embedded C/C++, Python, cloud services, APIs or databases.
• Electronics design, PCB review, sensor integration, low‑power systems or design for manufacture.
• Quality, regulatory, cybersecurity and formal risk analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead feasibility studies, proof of concepts, prototypes and controlled trials.
• Assess options using evidence, whole‑of‑life cost, risk and customer value.
• Develop and review system architectures connecting sensors, electronics and software.
• Hands‑on engineering in sensor interfaces, data acquisition, power management and communications.
• Define interfaces and data contracts with reliability, cybersecurity and supportability.
• Use AI tools to accelerate research, coding, testing, documentation and analysis.
• Verify and validate plans with field trials, labs and customer sites.
• Mentor engineers, promote disciplined problem solving and cross‑disciplinary capability.
