United States Digital Space LLC in Cambridge, UK, is seeking a Senior/Staff software engineer to drive decoding algorithms for quantum error correction. The role sits in the Research teams, collaborating with mathematicians, physicists and engineers to build simulation and analysis tooling.

At Senior level you own significant technical work; at Staff level you may lead a small team and set direction across projects.

Qualifications

• MSc in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Proficiency in C++ and Python is essential.
• Experience with collaborative programming.
• Strong foundations in linear algebra, discrete mathematics, and probabilities.
• Experience with CI/CD, containers, version control, and code analysis tools.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Interest in quantum computing.

Responsibilities

• Developing research ideas and prototypes into correct, maintainable, and fast code.
• Delivering reliable, optimised software implementations of cutting-edge decoding algorithms.
• Maintaining and evolving repositories and software releases at a high engineering level.
• Extending the company’s software tools for quantum simulation, QEC decoding and analysis.
• Sharing expertise and collaborating with other teams to guide development of QEC stack.
• Support whole research directions and lead teams.
