Job summary

NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) invites applications for a Senior Project Officer, ICT in Sydney. This hybrid role leads technology delivery across curriculum, assessment and credentials, coordinating multiple projects from planning to delivery and transition.

You will work with the Head of Technology Program Delivery to improve planning, tracking and decision-making while ensuring outcomes align with organisational objectives.

• Salary: $133,348 to $ 146,945 p.a. plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and leave loading

About the role

The Senior Project Officer, ICT manages and coordinates technology delivery that supports NESA’s core business functions across curriculum, assessment and credentials, teacher accreditation and school regulation. This includes evaluating and improving current technology and contributing to the design and development of future technology to support organisational objectives.

This role contributes to technology delivery which includes a range of transformation, enterprise and operational projects and business-as-usual initiatives. Working across multiple projects at different stages, you will apply a “whole-of-delivery” perspective from planning through to delivery and transition, helping ensure activities remain focused on the intended outcomes and organisational objectives, rather than solely on task completion.

Working closely with the Head of Technology Program Delivery and other technology and business leaders, you will strengthen planning, delivery tracking and decision-making across the technology portfolio. You will use fit-for-purpose delivery tools, reliable data and practical analysis to identify trends, risks, dependencies and areas requiring action.

On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for:

• Managing and overseeing project planning, development and implementation activities, contributing to the delivery of outcomes within agreed timeframes, budget, quality standards and scope.
• Preparing and reviewing project scope and business cases for projects with multiple interdependencies.
• Monitoring delivery schedules, milestones, dependencies, risks, benefits and quality measures, identifying variance and driving agreed actions, including re-planning or re-baselining where required, to keep delivery on track while enhancing delivery practices and informing future delivery planning.
• Supporting integrated planning and delivery tracking across technology teams, maintaining alignment between organisational priorities, planned initiatives, delivery schedules and team-level work.
• Establishing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management.
• Leading delivery readiness, planning and tracking forums, facilitating productive discussions with stakeholders, clarifying required actions and supporting timely, informed decision-making.
• Undertaking research and analysis, using delivery data, analytics and appropriate digital tools to identify trends, gaps and interdependencies, and translating this information into practical insights and evidence-based advice.
• Identifying opportunities to improve delivery tools, reporting processes, data quality and routine analysis so that teams and leaders have clearer and more timely information.
• Providing clear and timely information and advice to stakeholders on delivery readiness, progress, emerging issues, risks, dependencies and priorities, and supporting the consistent planning, reporting and delivery practices across the division.
• Coordinating with technology teams, business areas and relevant specialist functions such as procurement, P&C to resolve dependencies support governance, compliance and delivery requirements.
• Supporting engagement with vendors, service providers and consultants, including monitoring delivery commitments, escalating performance issues and contributing to discussions on required outcomes and timeframes.
• Supporting and mentoring technology team members and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Demonstrated ability to provide sound leadership in the design and development of business case.
• Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine solutions.
• Expertise in managing and contributing to the delivery of complex, interconnected projects and initiatives, ideally within technology-enabled environments.
• Experience in business analysis, development and maintenance of delivery dashboards within technology projects (desirable)

In addition, you will bring:

• Experience coordinating technology delivery across business-as-usual services and project or transformation initiatives.
• Experience working within scaled or coordinated delivery environments, connecting organisational priorities with delivery plans, schedules and team-level work.
• A practical interest in improving delivery tools, data quality, reporting and analysis to produce useful insights and reduce manual effort.
• Strong stakeholder-management and facilitation skills, including the ability to chair delivery forums, clarify decisions and drive agreed actions.
• The ability to identify gaps, risks and interdependencies and connect detailed delivery information to organisational objectives.
• A composed and practical approach to managing competing priorities and timeframes.
