Job description

Approach are seeking a Senior Project Manager who enjoys working on complex projects where data, policy, technology and stakeholder needs all intersect.

We are working closely with a large Federal Government Department and this team is responsible for improving how workforce data is collected, managed and used to support evidence-based reform across Australia’s health workforce.

This is an opportunity to work on projects that are still taking shape. You will be joining a growing data-focused team where project scope, processes and requirements are evolving. Your ability to bring structure, provide direction and adapt as priorities change will be highly valued.

Location: ACT (no other locations considered)

The role

You will take responsibility for the successful delivery of a major project with multiple workstreams and stakeholders and the projects will span a range of subject matter including data modelling, data governance, systems design, website redevelopment, stakeholder engagement and communications.

You will work closely with stream leads and an assigned IT Project Manager to ensure business and technical activities remain coordinated.

You will be responsible for establishing strong project controls and providing the leadership needed to keep delivery moving. This includes managing scope, deliverables, risks, issues, quality, resources and dependencies, while ensuring stakeholders have a clear understanding of progress and emerging challenges.

What you will bring

This role is suited to an experienced Project Manager who is comfortable taking ownership of complex projects and working with a high degree of autonomy.

You will have demonstrated experience in:

  • Leading medium to large projects with multiple workstreams, resources and dependencies.
  • Establishing project structures, plans, governance and delivery processes where they may not already exist.
  • Managing project scope, risks, issues, quality, resources and change control.
  • Working across business and technology teams to coordinate delivery.
  • Leading small teams and providing clear direction in an evolving environment.
  • Building effective relationships with senior stakeholders and facilitating decisions across different areas.
  • Translating complex information into clear advice, reporting and recommendations.
  • Applying established project management methodologies and tools, with experience in environments using frameworks such as PRINCE2, PRINCE2 Agile, MSP or P3M/P3O highly desirable.
