Job description

Our Client

Our client is a large NSW public sector organisation operating across climate change, energy, environmental protection, natural resources, water management and heritage. The organisation delivers state-wide programs with significant community, environmental and economic impact and operates within a highly governed and complex public sector environment. The department has a workforce of more than 5,000 employees and operates across NSW, with a major corporate presence in Parramatta. Its work spans large-scale policy, operational, technology and data programs, including initiatives supporting digital modernisation, environmental information, energy transition and improved government services. The organisation's recent strategic direction places strong emphasis on people, data, systems and digital capability. The role provides an opportunity to contribute to a substantial technology portfolio where effective project delivery, data capability and strong governance directly support important public outcomes. The environment is collaborative but fast-paced, with projects involving multiple business areas, technology teams, subject matter experts and external delivery partners.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of technology initiatives within a broader Data and Systems program. This is a delivery-focused opportunity for someone who can bring structure to complex projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and maintain momentum across competing priorities.

You will oversee projects from planning through implementation, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, risks, dependencies and stakeholder expectations remain well managed. The role will also contribute to business readiness, change impacts, benefits tracking and transition activities where required.

You will work closely with technology specialists, business representatives, subject matter experts, vendors and senior stakeholders, providing clear advice and practical solutions throughout the project lifecycle.

Position: Project Manager, Data Program

Pay rate: $900-$1,000/day + super

Location: Parramatta

Working Arrangement: Hybrid working available.

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: 20 November 2026

Hours: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and delivery of concurrent technology and data-related projects.
  • Establish project plans, schedules, milestones, deliverables and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate internal teams, technical specialists, subject matter experts and external suppliers.
  • Track project budgets, forecasts, resources and delivery performance against agreed targets.
  • Maintain project governance, reporting, documentation and decision-making processes.
  • Manage risks, issues, dependencies, assumptions and change impacts throughout delivery.
  • Develop practical mitigation strategies and elevate emerging concerns appropriately.
  • Build productive relationships with senior stakeholders and delivery partners.
  • Facilitate project meetings, workshops, planning sessions and governance forums.
  • Provide concise status updates, dashboards and reporting to support informed decisions.
  • Monitor project quality, benefits, outcomes and implementation readiness.
  • Coordinate testing, implementation, transition and business readiness activities where applicable.
  • Identify interdependencies across projects and proactively manage impacts on delivery.
  • Support continuous improvement of project delivery practices, templates and governance.
  • Translate complex project information into clear advice for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain accurate project records using established information and document management practices.
  • Ensure delivery remains aligned with approved methodologies, policies and organisational requirements.

These responsibilities reflect common expectations across contemporary Australian technology project management roles, including end-to-end delivery, governance, RAID management, stakeholder coordination, financial tracking, implementation and transition activities.
