Job summary

LANDY Developments in Brisbane is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead civil construction projects from award through to close-out. You will shoulder technical and commercial responsibility, directing site and project engineers while coordinating with the Senior Civil Supervisor and Construction Manager.

You will establish programs, manage cost reporting, handle variations, and ensure QA and ISO compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years' post-qualification experience in civil construction/infrastructure in Australia.
• Experience delivering urban subdivisions, bulk earthworks, roads, structures, drainage and utilities.
• Experience managing projects ≥$5 million and accountable for commercial outcomes.
• Substantive contract administration including progress claims and variations.

Job description

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead the delivery of civil construction projects from award through to practical completion, handover and defect close-out. This is the senior engineering role in our project delivery team, carrying technical and commercial responsibility for your projects, including program, monthly cost reporting, quality and compliance.

Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will run projects without close supervision, make technical and commercial decisions within delegated authority, and provide day-to-day direction to Site and Project Engineers. You will work alongside our Senior Civil Supervisor, who runs the works on the ground while you run the documentation and the contract.

What you will be doing

• Leading project establishment, including site establishment, programming, resourcing and procurement planning
• Developing and maintaining construction programs, chairing pre-starts and project meetings, and setting sequencing and priorities
• Interrogating drawings and specifications to identify design issues before they reach site, and managing RFIs and site instructions through to resolution
• Administering the head contract and subcontracts, including letters of award, back-charges and close-out
• Preparing monthly progress claims and managing them through to certification and payment
• Identifying, pricing and submitting variations on a first-principles basis, and managing notices within contractual time bars
• Maintaining cost-to-complete positions and reporting forecast final cost to senior management each month
• Procuring subcontractors and suppliers, and contributing to estimating and tendering
• Maintaining ITPs and QA records progressively, managing on- and off-maintenance inspections, and working within our certified ISO management systems
• Leading safe work practices, with the authority to stop work where a risk is not controlled
• Mentoring and developing Site and Project Engineers and graduates

What you will bring

• A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or similar
• At least 10 years' post-qualification experience delivering civil construction or infrastructure projects in Australia
• Demonstrated experience in urban subdivisions, bulk earthworks, road pavements, structures, drainage and utilities, including sewer and water
• Experience managing projects of at least $5 million in contract value, including responsibility for the commercial outcome
• Substantive contract administration experience, including progress claims, first-principles variations, subcontractor procurement and cost-to-complete reporting
• Working knowledge of SEQ local council and water authority specifications, approvals and handover processes
• Sound commercial judgement, composure under program pressure, and the ability to work autonomously
• Clear written and verbal communication, including contractual correspondence
• The ability to supervise and develop less experienced engineers
• A construction white card and a current Class C driver's licence (minimum)

It would be great if you also have

• RPEQ registration or chartered status, and Engineers Australia membership
• TMR or other major project experience
• Estimating and tendering experience
• Exposure to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
• Competence in AutoCAD, civil scheduling software, and planning software such as MS Project, Asta Powerproject or P6
