Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director – Project Architect to lead the design and delivery of complex defence, research and nuclear infrastructure projects from concept through delivery in Adelaide. This role requires architectural leadership, regulatory alignment, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to maintain design integrity and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Accredited degree in Architecture with AUKUS registration and exposure to nuclear defence / NSQEP 10–15+ years’ experience in architecture, including leadership roles on complex, safety-critical projects.
• Experience acting as Project Architect and/or Principal Consultant on medium to large-scale projects.
• Experience in regulated environments such as defence, laboratories, healthcare or nuclear facilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and delivery of defence, research, and nuclear infrastructure projects in regulated environments.
• Act as Project Architect, safeguarding design intent across all stages.
• Lead multidisciplinary design coordination across architectural, structural, services, and specialist systems.
• Translate nuclear safety and regulatory requirements into robust architectural responses.
• Oversee design development and compliance with Defence, NCC, IAEA, and nuclear frameworks.
• Engage clients and stakeholders to align project objectives and expectations.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to project teams for delivery excellence.
