Job summary

SAFEgroup Automation is expanding its Gladstone team and seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead design development, analysis and client collaboration from concept to commissioning. The role blends office design work with hands-on site involvement, data collection, equipment testing and commissioning in industrial power systems.

About the Role

Due to growing demand across key sectors, we're expanding our Gladstone team and seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join us in Gladstone.

This permanent role offers the opportunity to work on both interesting and challenging project as part of greenfield projects and plant upgrades. You’ll lead design development, complex analysis, create technical documentation, and collaborate directly with clients from concept through to commissioning. Expect a balance of office-based design work and hands‑on site involvement including data collection, equipment configuration and testing, as well as troubleshooting and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpreting client project requirements and preparing design documents and drawings, scopes of work, risk assessments and equipment specifications, etc
• Carrying out investigations, studies and detailed analysis of industrial, mining and utility power systems
• Managing project schedules and budgets
• Working unsupervised and leading small project teams
• Assisting in the preparation of proposals and quotations
• Providing coaching and mentoring for junior engineers

About You

We’re looking for a seasoned engineer with strong design skills, practical field experience, and a collaborative mindset. This role suits someone who values knowledge‑sharing and is ready to take the next step in their career - with opportunities for advancement and future team leadership.

We are looking for a candidate who brings:

• Proven ability to communicate and interface with a variety of stakeholders such as clients, management, peers, other disciplines, suppliers and installation contractors
• Ability to manage small project teams
• Experience in the preparation of design documentation including drawings, specifications, scopes of work etc

Candidate Profile

• You will be degree qualified in Electrical Engineering having extensive work experience in industrial power systems
• You will be an RPEQ
• Preference will be given to engineers with 7 + yearsof proven experience in experience in power system analysis and design
• Permanent working rights in Australia

Desirable Experience and Skills

• Strong working knowledge of AS2067 and AS1768
• Significant PTW and/or ETAP experience
• Design of industrial HV networks and associated protection systems
• Design experience for earthing and lightning protection systems
• Client-focused with strong communication skills
• Experience across a variety of Heavy Industries
