Job summary

Fremantle Ports Authority is seeking an experienced Port Hydrographer to lead hydrographic surveys, advise on navigational matters, and manage dredging and survey budgets. You will oversee DUCK and MetOcean systems, coordinate sediment management, and support port safety and efficiency.

The role requires a degree in Surveying (or related discipline), Level 1 Hydrographic Surveyor Certification, and at least 5 years in hydrographic surveying within maritime environments.

Qualifications

• Must hold a degree in Surveying or related discipline with Level 1 Hydrographic Surveyor Certification.
• Minimum 5 years’ hydrographic surveying experience in port/maritime settings.
• Experience managing maintenance dredging programs, sediment management, and channel/berth depth reporting.
• Accreditation by the Australian Hydrographic Surveyors Certification Panel is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all hydrographic surveys: planning, execution, analysis and reporting.
• Provide expert technical advice to the Harbour Master on hydrographic and navigational matters.
• Coordinate sediment management activities including sweep bar operations for safe depths.
• Manage dredging programs, contractor coordination and regulatory approvals.
• Ensure accurate promulgation of channel and berth depths to pilots and port users.
• Oversee DUCK and MetOcean infrastructure operation and improvements.
• Manage hydrographic survey budgets, expenditure and contractor performance.
• Direct the Small Craft Team in delivering hydrographic survey activities across port waters.
• Oversee marine navigation support systems and related service providers.
• Coordinate Notices to Mariners and other marine safety information.
