Job summary

Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria seeks a senior policy officer to shape Victoria's fines laws and policies. You will turn complex issues into clear advice to support government decisions and lead policy projects from proposal through delivery.

You will provide practical advice on laws and services, prepare briefings for Cabinet, and use research to propose changes. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in policy advice, research and delivering major projects.
• Experience advising on criminal law, administrative law, legal decisions, interpreting laws and human rights.
• Knowledge of Cabinet and Parliament, government decisions and the laws and work of fines and enforcement services.
• Clear communication, sound judgement and the ability to solve problems, work with others and stay calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical advice on fines laws, policies and services.
• Lead policy projects from the first proposal through to delivery.
• Prepare clear briefings, letters and responses to support Cabinet and Parliament.
• Use research to propose well-supported changes to laws and policies.
