Job summary

Breaker is seeking a mid-to-senior Perception Engineer for Localisation & Sensor Fusion in Sydney. You will own the 3D localisation pipeline, turning 2D detections into precise 3D world coordinates using passive sensors on moving platforms. Expect end-to-end ownership, field testing, and collaboration with CV, hardware, and field ops teams.

You’ll build metrics, implement new techniques, and generalise across camera systems and hardware. Strong Python/C++ and ROS/ROS2 are valuable for success.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with camera-based localisation on moving robotic platforms.
• Strong sensor fusion fundamentals including timing and calibration.
• Experience processing real-time data on edge hardware.
• Proven ability to diagnose localisation issues from robotic datasets.
• Familiarity with geometric inference backends (Ceres, GTSAM).
• Proficiency in Python and/or C++.
• Comfortable with Linux environments.
• Have deployed a production system, not just research prototypes.
• Must have working rights in Australia.
• Willing to participate in field testing.

Responsibilities

• Own the accuracy and performance of Breaker’s 3D localisation pipeline from 2D inputs to lat/long/alt outputs.
• Build metrics, ground truth collection, and automated evaluation tooling.
• Research, prototype, and deploy new localisation and sensor fusion techniques.
• Extend the system to track moving objects from moving platforms.
• Generalise the pipeline across different cameras and hardware configurations.
• Define interface contracts with adjacent CV and hardware teams.
• Process field data to identify failure modes and feed improvements.
• Design field test scenarios to stress-test localisation behaviours.
• Participate in regular field testing and training of field teams.
• Conduct software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing and experimentation.
