Job summary

Sonder is seeking a Senior Peer Practitioner to support young people and families using lived experience of mental health challenges. You will mentor peers, contribute to recovery-oriented services, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure meaningful inclusion of lived experience in service delivery.

The role is 0.5 FTE in a headspace Edinburgh North location, with a strong commitment to inclusion and culturally safe practice. WWCC/NPC requirements apply where relevant.

Qualifications

• Personal lived experience of mental health challenges, recovery, and/or substance use.
• Experience in peer practice, lived-experience mentoring, or peer support work.

Salary Band: $94,695.64 - $97,132.36 + Super

About the Role: As a Senior Peer Practitioner, you will use your own lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery to provide meaningful peer support and connection to young people and their families/carers. You'll take a strengths-based, recovery-focused approach and act as a positive role model for recovery.

You’ll also mentor and support Peer Practitioners, helping them build their skills and confidence in peer practice and provide lived experience supervision when needed. Working alongside staff and leadership to promote best-practice, recovery-oriented services.

In part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll ensure lived experience perspectives are meaningfully included in service delivery and advocate for the voices, experiences and needs of young people and their families.

Experience Requirements:

• Personal lived experience of mental health challenges, recovery, and/or substance use, and the ability to draw on this experience purposefully and safely in a professional context.
• Minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a Peer Practitioner, lived experience, or peer support worker role.
• Experience supporting the development of skills and understanding in other Peer Practitioners.
• Experience providing lived experience supervision or mentoring to peer workers is highly desirable.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary mental health team and contributing to integrated, consumer-centred service delivery.
• Experience in mental health, crisis care, community services, or a related sector.
• Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced environment.

Qualification and Other Requirements:

• Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
• Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC)
• Certificate IV in Peer Work or equivalent qualification with demonstrated experience in a lived experience, Peer Practitioner, or Peer Support Worker role, or willingness to obtain.
• Completion of Peer Supervision training through the Lived Experience Workforce Program is highly regarded.
• Certificate IV in Mental Health or a related field is desirable.
• Postgraduate qualification in an area related to mental health and/or lived experience practice is desirable
