Job summary

Sharp & Carter is seeking a Payroll Officer to support a busy payroll function for ~1,000 employees. You will operate in a highly manual environment, managing BAU payroll, investigations, and reporting with advanced Excel skills and minimal direction.

The role is a 7-month maternity leave cover, part-time (3 days per week) with 1 day WFH, in Melbourne. Immediate start, hourly rate AUD 45–55 plus super, hybrid flexibility.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of demonstrated experience in an end-to-end payroll processing role.
• Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes.
• Experience working within large and complex payroll environments.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end payroll processing across a workforce of circa 1000 employees.
• Managing fortnightly payroll cycles for both permanent and casual employees.
• Interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreement conditions and payroll legislation.
• Investigating payroll discrepancies and resolving payroll-related issues.
• Maintaining payroll accuracy, compliance and data integrity.
• Reviewing payroll reports and identifying anomalies.
• Performing payroll reconciliations and audit checks.
• Managing manual payroll calculations and adjustments.
