Job summary

Brennan is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator to own and optimize Oracle environments from Sydney. You will manage day-to-day operations, performance, backups, and DR readiness while contributing to Brennan’s in-house Oracle capability and client-facing deliverables.

The role focuses on Exadata, OCI, and Oracle on Azure, with a strong emphasis on reliability, security, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with client teams to ensure excellence in service and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years hands-on Oracle DBA experience in enterprise environments.
  • Experience running Oracle databases on OCI and Azure.
  • Strong performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN experience.
  • Customer-facing communication and ITIL-aligned processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day Oracle database operations for client environments and resolve incidents within SLAs.
  • Monitor health, capacity and performance; implement tuning and optimization.
  • Administer Exadata environments, patching and health checks.
  • Manage backups, patching, upgrades and recovery; ensure DR readiness.
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks and knowledge base articles.
  • Contribute to Brennan’s in-house Oracle capability and cross-team initiatives.

The role

The Senior Oracle Database Administrator role is based in Sydney and operates as a dedicated embedded resource supporting Client’s Oracle environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of day‑to‑day database operations and working independently to identify and resolve issues. Beyond this, the role will also contribute to building Brennan’s in‑house Oracle support capability.

You will be the trusted Oracle expert both for the dedicated customer account and across Brennan’s broader Oracle capability.

Your key responsibilities:
  • Own day‑to‑day operational support and administration of the customer’s Oracle database estate, resolving incidents and service requests within agreed SLAs.
  • Proactively monitor database health, capacity and performance to identify and resolve issues before they impact the customer.
  • Administer and support Oracle Exadata environments, including patching, health checks and performance tuning.
  • Manage and support Oracle databases hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle on Azure, including provisioning, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery.
  • Perform performance tuning, capacity planning and root‑cause analysis across production and non‑production environments.
  • Manage database backup and recovery, patching, upgrades and security hardening.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks and knowledge base articles.
  • Participate in change, incident and problem management processes, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Brennan’s in‑house Oracle support capability.
Key skills and experience required:
  • 10+ years’ hands‑on experience as an Oracle DBA in enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience running and supporting Oracle databases on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Experience running Oracle databases on Azure (Oracle Database@Azure or Oracle on Azure VMs).
  • Strong background in performance tuning, capacity planning and troubleshooting complex database issues.
  • Solid experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and RMAN backup and recovery.
  • Proven ability to work independently as a dedicated resource for a customer with strong customer‑facing communication skills.
  • Experience working within ITIL‑aligned incident, problem and change management processes.
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certification.
