Job summary

Enemix in Sydney (hybrid) is seeking a Senior/Principal/Lead Power Systems Engineer to drive grid connection strategies for utility-scale solar, wind and BESS projects across Australia’s NEM. You will lead power system studies and GPS development, guiding stakeholders through the full project lifecycle from development to commissioning.

The role requires 5–15+ years in power systems, strong PSSE/PSCAD skills and deep knowledge of AEMO processes and NSP frameworks.

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–15+ years experience in power systems engineering (senior/lead level).
• Proven experience in grid connection studies and GPS development.
• Strong working knowledge of PSSE and/or PSCAD.
• Solid understanding of AEMO processes, NER requirements and NSP frameworks.
• Experience working across multi-stakeholder project environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver power system studies including load flow, dynamic (RMS) and EMT modelling (PSSE and PSCAD).
• Develop and negotiate Generator Performance Standards (GPS) and connection applications.
• Define and implement grid connection strategies for complex and hybrid renewable projects.
• Manage AEMO generator registration processes (R1 & R2) and associated deliverables.
• Oversee concept design development and provide balance-of-plant electrical design input.
• Support or lead commissioning activities, hold point testing and model validation.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Engage with key stakeholders including AEMO, NSPs, OEMs and project developers.
• Advise clients on regulatory requirements, rule changes and ongoing compliance under the NEM framework.

About the Opportunity

A specialist grid-connection advisory firm is seeking an experienced Senior, Principal or Lead Power Systems Engineer to play a key role in delivering complex renewable energy projects across Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM).

This is a high-impact position working on utility-scale solar, wind and battery energy storage (BESS) projects, where you will lead grid connection strategies, power system studies and stakeholder engagement across the full project lifecycle—from early development through to commissioning and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver power system studies including load flow, dynamic (RMS) and EMT modelling (PSSE and PSCAD)

What You’ll Be Working On

• Utility-scale renewable projects (typically 100 MW to 2 GW+)
• Hybrid systems integrating solar, wind and BESS
• Complex grid connection challenges requiring technical and regulatory expertise
• End-to-end project involvement across:
  • Pre-feasibility & feasibility studies
  • Connection applications and GPS negotiation
  • Construction, commissioning and operational compliance

About You

You’ll be a highly capable power systems professional with a strong understanding of grid connections in the NEM.

Essential:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• 5–15+ years’ experience in power systems engineering (level aligned to Senior / Principal / Lead)
• Proven experience in grid connection studies and GPS development
• Strong working knowledge of PSSE and/or PSCAD
• Solid understanding of AEMO processes, NER requirements and NSP frameworks
• Experience working across multi-stakeholder project environments

Highly Regarded:

• Experience leading projects or mentoring teams
• Commissioning, testing or compliance experience
• Exposure to hybrid renewable energy projects
• Familiarity with system strength, stability and evolving grid requirements
