HII is seeking a Senior Nuclear Operations Engineer to join the team in Stirling, Western Australia or Canberra, ACT. The Nuclear Operations Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of nuclear power plants. This position is responsible for monitoring reactor systems, implementing safety protocols, analyzing performance data, and optimizing operational procedures.

The engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to maintain regulatory compliance and enhance plant efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the operation of nuclear reactors and associated systems to ensure safety and efficiency
  • Analyze reactor performance data and recommend optimizations
  • Develop and implement operational protocols that comply with regulatory standards
  • Monitor radiation levels and ensure adherence to safety regulations
  • Troubleshoot technical issues within reactor systems and propose solutions
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule inspections and repairs
  • Train plant personnel on nuclear safety, procedures, and emergency protocols
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies
  • Stay updated on nuclear industry advancements and regulatory changes
What you need to have:
  • 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • 12+ years in nuclear operations, reactor engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear reactor systems and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in analyzing reactor performance data.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations (e.g., NRC, DOE).
  • Licensed Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
