About the Role
The St Vincent's Neurosurgical Senior Resident Role serves as a bridge for residents who wish to become neurosurgical registrars. It provides exposure to on-call, theatres and registrar-level teaching in a supportive environment where senior residents are supported by registrars, and also gain insights into what it takes to become a good registrar and a successful application for the neurosurgical training program.

Duties include:

  • Assessing patients in clinic, emergency, planning operating schedules
  • Operating with various levels of supervision
  • monitoring post-operative progress of patients
  • Ensure complete documentation of admission and progress notes
  • Efficient running of day to day activities of the unit
  • Mentoring and teaching junior staff


Classifications for this position will range from HM13 - HM18 ($98,224.88- $149,885.84 per annum)

Length of appointment: 02 February 2026 - 31 January 2027

What you will bring

  • Classification of PGY3 or greater
  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Hold current AHPRA registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Hold a current, or willing to undergo a satisfactory National Police Check
  • Have a commitment to deliver the best in patient care and safety
  • Demonstrated experience applying medical knowledge towards sound clinical diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients
  • Demonstrated effective communication with patients, relatives, staff and colleagues


About the Neurosurgery Department
The Neurosurgery department provides a complete range of acute and elective neurosurgical care to the entire state of Victoria.

Sub specialisation within the team has allowed all neurological conditions to be cared for with the highest level of available expertise. Our complete patient care model involves preadmission clinics, clinical pathways and multidisciplinary clinics including Neuro-oncology, Base of Skull and Neurovascular.
