Job summary

Optus is seeking a senior network security expert to design, govern, and manage secure network architectures in our Australian environment. You will collaborate with engineering, cyber security, and operations teams to deliver secure firewall designs, migrations, and high-availability solutions across Fortinet and Check Point platforms.

The role requires strong leadership, an ability to translate complex requirements into secure networks, and experience with risk assessments and incident

Qualifications

• Degree in Telecommunications Engineering or related field.
• At least 8 years of experience in telecommunications or large enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in Fortinet and Check Point.
• Solid understanding of operational processes, fault management, and diagnosing customer issues.
• Proven ability to manage major faults across multiple platforms and communicate with senior stakeholders.
• Experience in testing/PoC environments, including understanding methodologies and platform limitations.
• Background in large-scale network design with scripting skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead PIR and rep CSE across all problem management related engagements.
• Design, implement, and maintain firewall solutions using Fortinet and Check Point platforms.
• Provide Tier-3 technical support to resolve complex and critical network security incidents.
• Translate business, security, and network requirements into scalable and secure firewall designs.
• Deliver firewall migrations, upgrades, policy optimisation, and high-availability implementations.
• Apply routing and switching knowledge to interpret network architectures and security traffic flows.
• Work closely with Network, Cyber Security, and Operations teams to ensure secure end-to-end designs.
• Perform security assessments, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for firewall and VPN services.
• Contribute basic scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency and repeatability.
• Ensure designs align with security standards, best practices, and lifecycle (EOL/EOS) requirements.
