Job summary

Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) seeks a Senior Native Title Officer in the Traditional Owner Agreements Unit of the First Peoples Self Determination Division. The role focuses on negotiating native title settlements under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and related policies, with emphasis on culturally informed governance of land management.

Based at 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne, the position offers hybrid work arrangements for a 12-month fixed term.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in law or public policy.
• Experience delivering policy programs and projects.
• Ability to communicate with First Peoples.
• Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and contemporary issues.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate and settle native title claims and agreements.
• Provide governance, policy advice and guidance for land management.
• Support development and implementation of Traditional Owner policies.
• Collaborate with Traditional Owner Land Management Boards and stakeholders.
