Job summary

Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) seeks a Principal Departmental Liaison Officer to connect departmental expertise with ministerial priorities. You will advise on policy, coordinate information exchange between the Minister’s office and the Department, and manage briefs, correspondence and reports in a high‑pressure, fast‑moving environment.

You will lead staff, maintain strong relationships with the Minister’s office, and support parliamentary and budget processes,

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of machinery of government, including Cabinet and Parliament roles.
• Strong research, analysis and judgement for complex issues.
• Excellent written communication for briefs and reports.
• Relationship management to liaise between Department and Minister’s office.
• Ability to gather and summarise information from diverse sources.
• Proven team leadership and coaching abilities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate responses to Minister and Secretary requests; review and draft briefs, correspondence and reports.
• Provide policy and procedural advice to support informed decision-making.
• Support Minister’s office during Parliamentary sitting weeks and budget processes.
• Lead and develop staff to deliver timely, high‑quality outputs.
