Job summary

The Senior Mining Engineer – Short Term Planning at Glencore Australia is based in Mt Isa, QLD, and will lead the preparation and delivery of short-term mine designs to support safe, efficient development, production, and infrastructure activities.

You will translate longer-term plans into executable short-term strategies, provide technical leadership to the mining team, and optimise drill and blast design and overall mine planning to achieve production targets.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related subject.
• Minimum 6–8 years mining engineering experience, preferably within underground hard rock operations.
• Demonstrated experience in short-term mine planning, drill and blast design, and operational mine design.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams, graduates, or cadets.
• Strong understanding of underground mining methods and production processes.

The operation:

George Fisher Mine (GFM) is a large-scale underground zinc-lead-silver operation based in Mt Isa, QLD. GFM has complex mining sequence, multiple operating fronts, and significant interactions among development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, infrastructure, services, and production readiness.

George Fisher has a long mine life and is a key strategic asset for Glencore globally.

The role:

The Senior Mining Engineer – Short Term Planning is responsible for leading and overseeing the preparation and delivery of short-term mine designs and plans to support the safe and efficient execution of development, production, services, and infrastructure activities

Your ability to translate medium- and long-term mine plans into practical short-term execution strategies aligned with operational capabilities and production targets will the crucial. We also need someone who can provide technical leadership and guidance to the mining engineering team and also optimise mine design / planning and drill and blast practices.

Experience required:

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related subject
• Minimum 6–8 years mining engineering experience, preferably within underground hard rock operations
• Demonstrated experience in short-term mine planning, drill and blast design, and operational mine design.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams, graduates, or cadets.
• Practical operational exposure with a strong understanding of underground mining methods and production processes.
• Strong experience with mine design software such as Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, or Deswik.
• Advanced knowledge of drill and blast design, stope design, and operational mine planning.
