Job summary

Gilmour Space Technologies in Australia is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Satellites) to design, analyse and verify mechanical, structural and thermal systems for space‑flight hardware, with a focus on mass optimisation and manufacturability.

You will lead from concept through design, assembly and qualification, develop test plans, review specifications, analyse test data and work with technicians, engineers and managers to deliver reliable structures for satellite missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering.
• 5+ years of mechanical/structural design and analysis experience.
• 5+ years with CAD and assemblies.
• 5+ years with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics package.
• 5 years hands-on hardware fabrication, assembly, integration or testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyse, and verify mechanical, structural and thermal systems to meet allocated requirements, prioritising mass optimisation and manufacturability.
• Utilise the full spectrum of the design, analysis, test, and manufacturing tools to create efficient structures and components.
• Ownership of product delivery timeline through conception, design, assembly, and qualification.
• Develop test plans for parts through development, qualification, and acceptance testing.
• Review specifications and other data to develop mechanical layouts.
• Analyse and interpret data collected during testing leading to correlation of models.
• Ability to problem solve and resolve complex situations; interact with technicians, engineers and managers.
• Other duties as requested by Management.
