Job summary

Vertiv in Australia is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Thermal) to lead post-sales technical reviews and ensure robust, cost-effective cooling solutions for critical infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand.

You will review documentation, act as technical authority, coordinate with partners and vendors, and guide product selection through project hand-over, with a focus on quality, schedule, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years engineering experience in mission critical cooling infrastructure.
• Good understanding and knowledge of HVAC industry and products.
• Strong leadership, prioritisation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Attend hand-over from Pre- to Post-Sales after project win.
• Review documentation to ensure buildability and budget compliance.
• Review proposal from compliance to commissioning and hand-over, including training docs.
• Serve as technical authority for engineering decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate with partners, contractors and vendors for cost-effective solutions.
• Attend post-sales meetings on scope, tech qualifications and testing with all parties.
• Own the project through delivery, commissioning and hand-over.
• Ensure thorough hand-over to Project Management on arrival.
• Maintain a comprehensive documentation register and update revisions.
• Review revisions for scope impacts and communicate to stakeholders.
• Provide complete project documentation to PM on delivery.
• Prepare scope of supply for procurement and avoid overlaps in scope.
• Ensure no gaps in scope and highlight deviations to customer.
• Liaise with Sales and Project Managers to capture deviations and variations.
• Provide variation documentation to protect margins.
• Manage site documentation revisions post PO and incorporate into compliance statements.
• Develop as-built drawings ready for site hand-over.

Vertiv is seeking to add a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Thermal) to our high performing team!

Provide post-sales engineering review, leadership and support for won projects in Australian and New Zealand. Provide guidance and expertise on critical infrastructure projects, including the application and installation of Vertiv products and services, including support with approved third-party vendors and internal teams, to facilitate smooth deployment of major projects undertaken by the business. They will also provide technical leadership amongst peers in the team with expertise to help drive decision making.

Key Responsibilities:

Attend the documentation hand-over process from Pre to Post-Sales teams once a project has been won or has a very high likelihood.

On receipt of the Document Package, interrogate the documentation to ensure buildability and budget compliance.

Review all aspects of the proposal, from Statement of Compliance through to Commissioning and Hand-over, including provision of Training and Documentation requirements to the customer.

Act as technical authority for engineering decisions and design philosophies throughout the project lifecycle.

Once Technical Review is complete, engage with our partners, contractors, and vendors to assure the most cost-effective and technically sound solution has been selected by the Pre-Sales teams. Work with Product Managers, Service Teams, and our source factories (where necessary), to ensure the best possible and cost-effective solution has been selected for the project.

During the Post-Sales phase, attend to all project meetings on scope of supply, technical qualifications and testing procedures and programs are understood by Vertiv associates, contractors, other vendors, and our customer.

Assist with the ownership of the project through to delivery, commissioning and hand-over.

Ensure a thorough hand-over process to Project Management when the units have arrived in country.

Operate a comprehensive documentation register for all project files and ensure the latest revisions are uploaded to the company server.

Check new revisions for details affecting Vertiv’s scope of supply and quickly communicate any impacts to Vertiv’s technical, cost and schedule impacts, back to the customer and the Sales and Projects team for management of variations.

Provide a completed set of project documentation to the Project Management Team on delivery of the project for hand-over to the client.

Where necessary, prepare a detailed Scope of Supply to Procurement, where Vertiv contractors and vendors are required to undertake works on our behalf. Documentation should be thorough enough to be used by procurement to gain the necessary number of quotations and enable tensioning of vendors to occur.

Scopes of Supply should also ensure there are no areas of overlap or gaps in scop, reducing our risk of double-ups or variations from our vendors

Liaise with Sales and Project Managers to capture all site, scope and testing departures from our original submission, are captured, and highlighted to the customer. Provide variation documentation as and when required to ensure Entry margins are not eroded through the span of the project.

Manage revisions and updates to site documentation post the Purchase Order. This will include incorporating documentation changes into revised Statements of Compliance and other affected documents.

Work with PSA team to have as-built drawings developed and updated as necessary, ready for site hand-over.

Qualifications:

Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering

10+ years engineering experience with market knowledge of mission critical cooling infrastructure, including application, installation, commissioning, testing and communications connectivity

Tender processes and the application of products to fit their requirements.

Good understanding and knowledge of HVAC industry and products

Prioritisation, interpersonal & Leadership skills with high attention to detail.
