Job summary

Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Senior Manager, Regulatory Engagement – APRA to join the Enterprise Risk & Compliance team. You will work with the Head of APRA Relationship to provide prudential regulatory advice across portfolios and help shape group regulatory strategy.

You will manage APRA queries, draft briefing notes for the Board and CEO, and collaborate with senior stakeholders to ensure timely, clear regulatory engagement and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Risk Mindset – All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify, understand, openly discuss, and act on current and future risks.
  • Over 7 years work experience in a regulatory affairs, compliance or risk management role gained in industry, private practice, or the public sector.
  • Financial risk experience supporting Treasury, Credit Risk Modelling or Stress Testing is highly desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of APRA’s role and its powers.
  • Strong analytical, coordination and issue management skills.
  • Strong service orientation and well-developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for prioritising work, addressing inquiries and developing relationships with senior Business Unit stakeholders across the Group.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills and an ability to deal with a broad range of internal stakeholders.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills including an ability to draft clear, concise, and plain English documents.
  • Role-model for the CBA values: Care, Courage, and Commitment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prudential regulatory advice for allocated portfolios across Traded and Non-Traded Market Risk, Capital/Liquidity Management, Stress Testing and Resolution Planning.
  • Manage APRA queries and information requests including subject matter expert advice and guidance to the business.
  • Champion the CBA Regulatory Engagement Principles to deliver simpler, better, and more proactive regulatory engagement for the CBA Group.
  • Draft internal briefing notes for the Board/Board Committees and CEO ahead of major engagements with the prudential regulator.
  • Monitor regulatory risk of information sharing by regulators.
  • Ensure administrative actions have been completed as required under the appropriate CBA standards and team procedures.
  • Draft content for inclusion into Regulatory and Breach Board reporting.

As part of Enterprise Risk & Compliance, our team has four primary teams spanning regulatory advocacy, change, strategy and engagement across APRA, ASIC and the RBA.

See yourself in the team:

As a Senior Manager, within the central Regulatory Engagement team you will play an important role working closely with the Head of APRA Relationship and provide regulatory advice from a cross Group perspective and drive Group Regulatory Strategy initiatives with key stakeholders across the Group.

Your day could look like but not limited to:

With support and coaching from the Head of APRA Relationship:
