Description du poste

Location: Melbourne, Adelaide, Bendigo, or Sydney (Hybrid / Flexible working options)

Team: Divisional CRO, Consumer & Digital | Group Risk

Work Type: Permanent, Full-time

Closing Date: 3 November

We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.

It Begins at Bendigo Bank

As we continue to mature our risk ecosystem and deliver on our strategic roadmap, our Divisional CRO (Consumer & Digital) team within Group Risk is expanding. We are seeking an experienced, high-calibre risk leader at the Senior Manager level to provide independent second-line oversight, evidence-based challenges, and strategic advisory across our vital Wealth enterprise portfolio.

About the Opportunity

Operating with substantial professional discretion and technical credibility, this role reports to the CRO, Consumer & Digital and acts as a trusted second-line advisor to Wealth Executives, General Managers, and Senior Leadership Teams.

In this role, your mandate extends well beyond routine compliance: you will operationalise overarching risk strategies, evaluate emerging exposures, and ensure material business changes and strategic ambitions are executed safely, sustainably, and within Board risk appetite.

Portfolio & Focus Areas

Operating under Bendigo Bank’s integrated Line 2 Risk Management Framework, you will be dedicated to our Wealth operational landscape.

  • Portfolio Scope: Wealth business unit, financial advice governance, investment and superannuation products, trustee/fiduciary frameworks, and wealth operational journeys.
  • Specialist Wealth Risk Advisory: Providing tailored Line 2 advice on fiduciary standards, advice licensee governance, client remediation mechanisms, and product distribution.
  • Regulatory & Prudential Oversight: Independent monitoring and assurance against APRA and ASIC prudential standards, market conduct expectations, and evolving wealth regulatory reforms.
  • Product & Strategic Change Evaluation: Conducting independent 2LoA reviews on wealth product lifecycle changes, platform transitions, and third-party investment partnerships prior to executive governance approvals.

What You’ll Do (Core Accountabilities)

  • Independent 2LoA Challenge & Oversight: Deliver constructive, evidence-based second-line challenge to First Line (1LoA) leaders on risk identification, control effectiveness, RCSA quality, and incident/breach root-cause remediations.
  • Executive & Governance Reporting: Synthesise complex non-financial risk data to draft high-impact risk commentary, assessments, and dashboards for Divisional Risk Committees, Executive submissions, and Board-level papers.
  • End-to-End Assurance & Deep Dives: Lead the design and execution of targeted Line 2 reviews and thematic deep dives in accordance with the annual divisional assurance plan, monitoring the sustainable closure of remediation actions.
  • Risk Culture & Capability Uplift: Lead through influence as a senior individual contributor, actively coaching First Line partners to foster an authentic 'speak up' culture, proactive risk ownership, and commercial, balanced decision-making.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

We are seeking seasoned second-line risk professionals who combine technical risk mastery with commercial pragmatism and persuasive stakeholder engagement:

  • Relevant Experience: Substantial senior-level experience in banking, wealth, or financial services, with deep technical expertise in non-financial and operational risk management frameworks and regulatory standards.
  • Portfolio Alignment: Advanced specialist expertise in wealth management businesses, financial advice, investment products, superannuation, or fiduciary risk.
  • Robust Second-Line Track Record: Demonstrated ability to provide formal, constructive challenge to senior leadership and translate complex regulatory frameworks into practical operational solutions.
  • Analytical & Critical Thinking: Strong diagnostic capabilities to dissect operational processes, identify systemic vulnerabilities, and recommend balanced, risk-proportionate outcomes.
  • Executive Influencing & Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of authoring concise, C-suite/Board-ready papers and influencing senior stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law, Finance, Risk Management, or a related discipline essential. Relevant industry certifications or postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.
