Digital Canberra is seeking an experienced Senior Linux, Unix and Appliance Specialist to join the Strategic Asset Management Program.

This role provides specialist technical expertise to support infrastructure modernisation and refresh activities across ACT Government. You will work on Linux, Unix and infrastructure appliance platforms, helping deliver upgrades, security hardening, automation, migration and lifecycle uplift activities that improve the reliability, resilience and supportability of critical technology services.

Working alongside infrastructure engineers, network specialists, architects, project teams and operational stakeholders, you will contribute to enterprise-scale technology transformation initiatives while providing technical leadership in the planning, implementation, validation and transition of refreshed environments.

We are looking for a collaborative and technically capable professional with strong Linux or Unix expertise, sound judgement and a passion for solving complex infrastructure challenges.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

The successful applicant must be an Australian citizen and be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance. This position is designated as a Position of Trust.

Highly Desirable
  • Relevant Linux, Unix, Red Hat, Oracle Linux, Solaris, automation, security or infrastructure appliance certifications

Note:

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill similar vacancies over the next 12 months.

Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office-based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing and flexible start and finish times.

Current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members are encouraged to apply.

Your application should demonstrate your ability to provide specialist technical expertise, collaborate effectively with stakeholders and deliver successful infrastructure outcomes within complex ICT environments.

Please refer to the Position Description for detailed information about the role and Selection Criteria.

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service. The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
