Job summary

ACAP University College, part of Navitas, seeks a Senior Lecturer in Counselling to lead teaching and academic initiatives. You will guide tutorials, develop course materials with senior staff, contribute to research, and mentor lecturers while driving curriculum quality and accreditation efforts.

Qualifications

• It is essential you hold a doctoral qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, or a related discipline (AQF 10 or equivalent).
• You have significant counselling industry experience and demonstrated expertise in professional practice.
• You have substantial experience in tertiary teaching with a commitment to student learning outcomes.
• You are eligible for ACA or PACFA membership.
• You can teach across undergraduate and postgraduate counselling programs.
• You can teach a broad range of topics including Counselling Skills, Theories, Group Work, Grief, Trauma-Informed Counselling, Ethics, Mental Health, Neuroscience, Psychodynamic Therapy, Research, Addictive Behaviours, and Cross-Cultural Counselling.

Responsibilities

• Foster intellectual curiosity by guiding students through tutorials, workshops, placement units, and clinical sessions.
• Collaborate with senior staff to develop and refine course materials for engaging learning.
• Contribute to scholarly research projects and disciplinary knowledge.
• Provide academic leadership to lecturers and educators to promote teaching excellence.
• Participate in discipline meetings and contribute to curriculum development and governance.
• Mentor staff and support accreditation and quality assurance processes.
• Coordinate courses and lead teaching teams as required.

Qualifications

• Doctoral qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, or a related discipline (AQF 10 or equivalent).
• Significant counselling industry experience and demonstrated expertise in professional practice.
• Substantial experience in tertiary teaching, with a strong commitment to excellence in student learning and outcomes.
• Eligibility for membership with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
• Demonstrated ability to teach across undergraduate and postgraduate counselling programs.
• Capacity to teach a broad range of counselling and psychotherapy subjects, including:

• Demonstrated academic leadership experience, including leading teaching and learning initiatives, contributing to curriculum innovation, supporting accreditation and quality assurance processes, and mentoring or supervising academic staff.
• Demonstrated capacity to provide academic leadership, including course coordination, curriculum enhancement, quality assurance activities, and leadership of academic teams.
• Experience coordinating courses, leading teaching teams, or contributing to academic governance, accreditation, and quality assurance activities within a higher education environment.
• Willingness to undertake course coordination and other academic leadership responsibilities as required.
• Registration as a Clinical Supervisor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and/or the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
• A developing or established record of scholarly activity, including research, publications, conference presentations, or other discipline-related contributions.
