Job summary

The Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) is seeking high-performing lawyers to join the Commercial team as Senior Lawyers. You will advise Commonwealth agencies on major projects, complex transactions and strategic policy matters, delivering high-quality legal services with national significance.

Positions are offered at EL1 and EL2 levels, with flexibility for hybrid work, ongoing professional development and the chance to shape government outcomes while building expertise across public law

Qualifications

• Extensive legal experience in complex or sensitive matters.
• Ability to supervise and develop junior practitioners.
• Proven capacity to work in a time-sensitive environment.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and client service skills.
• Eligibility to practise in Australia with NV2 security clearance potentially required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality legal services to Commonwealth clients on national transactions and programs.
• Contribute to strategic advice, client relationships and cross-practice collaboration.
• Support complex policy, procurement, IP, privacy and technology matters.
• Collaborate with senior colleagues to mentor junior lawyers and ensure compliance.
• Provide guidance on governance, risk and public administration objectives.
