Westpac Group is seeking a Senior Lawyer to join the Platforms, Investments and Operations team in Sydney or Melbourne. You will provide expert legal advice on complex regulatory matters affecting platforms, superannuation, and funds management, with a focus on the Corporations Act and prudential standards.

You will partner with internal partners, help shape the Legal function's strategy, and drive improvements while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

• 10+ years' PQE in financial services or funds management.
• Expert knowledge of regulatory duties for platforms, superannuation, and margin lending.
• Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Excellent commercial and analytical abilities.

What’s the role?

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Financial Services Lawyer to join a talented and high-performing team, supporting BT, which is a part of Westpac’s Business & Wealth Division. Your key accountabilities will include:

• Advising on legal risks associated with complex regulatory matters impacting platforms, superannuation, funds management and margin lending. This includes advising in relation to Part 7.9 and Chapters 5C and 7 of the Corporations Act 2001, superannuation legislation and relevant prudential standards.
• Advising the business and superannuation trustee/RE boards on a wide range of matters in relation to platforms, superannuation and funds management.
• Contributing to the strategic and operational performance of the Legal function by contributing new ideas and initiatives; developing ‘house views’, function-wide improvements, and knowledge sharing.
• Partnering with our internal business partners to advise on legal issues, and building and maintaining relationships.
• Driving a continuous improvement culture, and, in particular, encouraging and fostering an environment of innovation and creative thinking.

This is a fulltime, permanent role based in either Sydney or Melbourne with flexible and hybrid working.

What do I need?

We are seeking a Senior Lawyer (with 10+ years’ PQE), with the following skills and experience:

• Strong financial services experience, in a large corporate or private practice environment.
• Expert knowledge and understanding of legal and regulatory duties, obligations and requirements related to superannuation, platforms, managed funds and margin lending.
• Excellent understanding of key trends and drivers in financial services.
• Solutions-focused with strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Strong commercial acumen.
• Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills.
