Job summary

Australian Taxation Office is seeking a Senior Lawyer (EL 1) to provide legal advice and dispute resolution across general law matters affecting ATO operations. You will analyse legislation, policies and precedent to resolve complex issues and provide strategic guidance to senior leaders and business partners.

You will identify, evaluate and manage sensitive matters, exercising judgment and autonomy, and own legal outcomes.

Job description

We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Lawyers to join our Office of General Counsel.

As a Senior Lawyer (EL 1), you will provide legal advice and dispute resolution services across a range of general law matters affecting ATO operations. You will analyse, interpret and apply legislation, policies, legal principles and precedent to resolve complex legal issues and provide strategic legal advice to senior leaders and business partners.

You will identify, evaluate and manage complex or sensitive legal matters, exercise a high degree of judgement and autonomy, and take ownership of legal outcomes. You will influence decision-making across the organisation and support the effective management of legal risk.

Leading a small team, you’ll develop staff capability and mentor less experienced lawyers.

These roles may be offered on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis in Adelaide, Brisbane CBD, Canberra, Melbourne CBD or Sydney CBD.
