Job summary

The National Measurement Institute, part of the Australian Department of Industry, Science and Resources, invites applications for a Senior Laboratory Services Officer (APS Level 6) based at North Ryde. The role provides advanced administrative and technical support across Analytical Services in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Applicants should have a science degree or diploma with at least five years’ analytical lab experience, strong leadership and a solid understanding of NATA

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in a science-related field with a minimum of five years in an analytical laboratory.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, coach and develop staff.
• Understanding of NATA accreditation requirements, quality management systems and lab compliance standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
• High attention to detail with ability to meet KPIs in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organisational and time management skills; ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational leadership and support to the Laboratory Services team.
• Assist with staff supervision and workflow coordination to ensure quality outputs and timely delivery of results.
• Support training, mentoring and ongoing development of Laboratory Services staff.
• Provide complex administrative and technical support for Analytical Services operations.
• Coordinate timely reporting of analytical results to clients, including LIMS report generation and distribution.
• Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and respond to service requirements.
• Contribute to operational decision-making, continuous improvement initiatives and business process enhancements.
• Work collaboratively to achieve service standards and turnaround targets.
• Support change management and improvements to service quality and efficiency.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge through ongoing training.
• Review, input, and authorise outsourced laboratory results for accuracy and compliance.
