Job summary

Hydrogen Group in Sydney seeks an experienced Java Developer to design, develop, and support high-quality applications within a fast-paced financial services environment.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable backend services and RESTful APIs, leveraging Spring Boot, microservices, and cloud platforms. The role emphasizes reliability, security, and performance across complex systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial software development experience.
• Strong experience developing applications in Java (Java 11 or above).
• Exposure to Kotlin development.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles and software engineering best practices.
• Experience with Spring Boot and the wider Spring ecosystem.
• Knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
• Experience using Git and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks including JUnit and Mockito.
• Understanding of secure coding practices and application performance optimisation.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Experience working within banking, financial services, insurance, wealth management, or fintech environments.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies including Scrum or Kanban.
• Exposure to monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, or Dynatrace.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-grade Java applications.
• Build scalable, secure, and resilient backend services and APIs.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, QA Engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software.
• Participate in system design, technical planning, and architectural discussions.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement effective solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tooling, and engineering standards.
• Ensure applications comply with security, regulatory, and compliance requirements relevant to financial services.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based deployment practices.
