Job description

The Senior Investment Governance Manager – Superannuation is a critical role in the Betashares Superannuation business. The role has responsibility for the effective operation and continuous improvement of the Betashares Superannuation investment governance framework.

This role provides strategic oversight and executive assurance to the Trustee, Board and Committees that investment arrangements support member outcomes, meet regulatory expectations and remain fit for purpose as the Betashares superannuation business continues to grow and evolve.

The role translates investment data, manager information and market developments into clear insights and recommendations for senior management, the Investment Governance Committee and the Trustee.

Operating as a lead authority on superannuation investment governance, the Senior Investment Governance leads governance uplift initiatives and partners closely with senior stakeholders across investments, risk, legal and operations.

The role is suited to an analytically strong investment professional who can use their specific knowledge while contributing sound judgement, challenge and evidence-based decisions.

Role Responsibilities and Opportunities
Investment Governance Ownership & Strategy
  • Lead the design, ongoing effectiveness and future evolution of the superannuation investment governance framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and best practice.
  • Set clear governance standards, expectations and priorities for investment governance activities across the Super business.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for material investment matters, issues and decisions.
Board, Trustee & Regulatory Engagement
  • Serve as a lead advisor to the Trustee, Board and Investment Committees on investment governance matters.
  • Lead high-stakes engagement with regulators and external reviewers, providing assurance on governance outcomes.
  • Oversee the quality, clarity and consistency of investment governance reporting to Boards and regulators
Oversight of Investment Monitoring & Due Diligence
  • Lead and provide oversight and challenge across investment performance monitoring, stress testing, liquidity management and due diligence activities.
  • Ensure monitoring frameworks, triggers and escalation processes are appropriate, effective and consistently applied.
  • Coordinate and undertake investment and operational due diligence, synthesising quantitative and qualitative evidence into clear recommendations.
  • Lead periodic reviews of investment strategies, investment options and lifecycle arrangements by providing robust analysis of market conditions, portfolio characteristics, risks and member-outcome considerations.
Governance Transformation & Uplift
  • Lead investment governance transformation initiatives, including responses to regulatory change, operating model evolution and framework uplift.
  • Lead on superannuation transformation projects, ensuring governance is embedded by design.
  • Drive continuous improvement in investment governance processes, documentation and decision-making.
  • Partner with investment managers, custodians, consultants and internal teams to improve the quality, timeliness and control of investment data, reporting and governance evidence.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen analytics, automation, documentation and monitoring processes, while supporting audits, regulatory change and broader investment governance uplift initiatives.
Key skills and experience
  • Strong investment analytical capability, including the ability to interpret portfolio performance, risk, benchmarks, attribution or manager data and draw evidence-based conclusions.
  • Experience in investments, asset management, investment consulting, custody, superannuation or another relevant institutional investment environment, with exposure to multi-asset portfolios or investment structures.
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking investment research, manager due diligence, portfolio monitoring or performance analysis and converting findings into practical recommendations.
  • Strong numerical reasoning and advanced technology and AI capability, with disciplined attention to data quality, reconciliations, controls and documentation.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce concise committee or senior-management reporting and explain complex investment matters to non-specialists.
  • Sound judgement and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge constructively, manage competing priorities and work effectively across investment, risk, legal and operational teams.
  • At least 2-5 years’ experience in Superannuation investment governance or an investments role
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business, Law or a related discipline.
