Job summary

Australian Electoral Commission in Canberra seeks an APS6 Senior Investigations Officer to lead investigations into compliance with electoral funding and disclosure laws. You will work within the Disclosure and Compliance section, applying risk-based analysis and delivering high-quality briefs and reports for decision-makers.

You must have strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, plus readiness to lead junior staff and adapt to legislative changes.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting or leading investigations, audits or similar assurance activities.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret complex information and assess risks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities across all levels.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver quality outcomes under pressure.
• Certificate IV in Government Investigations (PSP40416) or willingness to complete with AEC support.

Responsibilities

• Apply a risk-based approach to investigating potential anti-avoidance schemes under the Electoral Act and the Referendum Act.
• Investigate contraventions of the Electoral Act and Electoral Reform Act, and support enforcement action.
• Use data and intelligence tools to identify high-risk behaviours, entities and schemes.
• Support targeted compliance action and contribute to compliance strategies.
• Prepare high-quality briefs, reports and correspondence for decision-makers.
• Contribute to developing and refining policies and procedures for electoral funding and disclosure.
• Provide leadership, guidance and support to junior staff, building capability and quality outcomes.
• Stay flexible and adaptable as the section responds to legislative changes.
