Contract Term
- Initial contract of 12 months, with extensions available up to a maximum total contract term of 24 months.
Security Clearance
- Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) clearance is required. You must hold and maintain this clearance for the duration of the contract.

About The Role
You will join teams responsible for the infrastructure that supports critical digital services. In this senior technical role, you will provide specialist SAP Basis engineering expertise across a complex SAP landscape, helping maintain and modernise the platforms on which essential business systems rely. A key focus will be supporting the organisation’s SAP S/4HANA transition, including the migration of SAP workloads and databases to SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA. You will contribute to technical assessments, landscape design, migration planning, system conversions, testing and operational readiness. Working with architects, platform engineers, project teams, security specialists and Australian Public Service colleagues, you will advise on SAP operations and future-state architecture. You will also build internal capability through mentoring, documentation, workshops and day-to-day knowledge sharing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior SAP Basis administration and engineering across the SAP landscape.
- Install, configure, upgrade, patch and maintain SAP systems, and manage their lifecycle.
- Manage transports, clients, system refreshes and SAP environments.
- Monitor and optimise performance, availability and reliability; troubleshoot complex platform issues.
- Design and implement high-availability, backup, recovery and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Support security, infrastructure and application teams to meet organisational standards and policies.
- Contribute to SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA planning, design, implementation and migration activities.
- Conduct technical assessments, readiness reviews and proof-of-concept work for modernisation initiatives.
- Develop technical documentation, operating procedures and support models; mentor colleagues and transfer knowledge.
- Participate in an on-call roster and scheduled release shifts if required.
Required Technical Skills
- Expert-level SAP Basis administration, including installation, configuration, transport management, monitoring, performance tuning, patching, upgrades and troubleshooting.
- Strong SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA technical expertise.
- SAP landscape architecture, administration and operational support.
- Planning and delivery of SAP upgrades, migrations and technical conversions.
- Database migration and transition of SAP workloads to SAP HANA.
- SAP high availability, backup, recovery, disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Linux and enterprise infrastructure supporting SAP systems.
- Cloud-hosted and hybrid SAP architectures.
- ICT security, risk and compliance practices.
Required Experience
- Demonstrated senior experience as an SAP Basis Administrator, SAP Basis Engineer or SAP Technical Engineering Expert in a large, complex SAP environment.
- Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA implementations, upgrades, migrations, conversions or modernisation programmes.
- Proven involvement in SAP workload and database migrations, including planning, execution, testing, cutover and operational readiness.
- Experience providing technical advice and collaborating with architects, engineers, project teams, vendors and business stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to develop technical documentation and operating procedures, mentor colleagues and transfer knowledge to internal teams.
- Current SAP certification in SAP Basis or System Administration and SAP HANA, or equivalent SAP technology qualifications.
- Experience in Australian Government or similarly regulated environments is desirable; experience with cloud or hybrid SAP platforms and large-scale ERP transformation is also advantageous.
