Job summary

Vertical Scope Group seeks a Senior SAP Technical Engineering Expert to join a major government technology environment. You’ll lead SAP Basis operations and support the transition to SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA, collaborating with architects, engineers and project teams to deliver critical enterprise platforms.

You will mentor teams, develop technical documentation and contribute to capability building while ensuring robust, secure SAP landscapes in a hybrid setup.

Qualifications

• Senior SAP Basis Administrator/Engineer with experience in large SAP environments.
• Strong expertise in SAP Basis, SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA.
• Experience delivering S/4HANA implementations, migrations, upgrades or modernisation.
• Proven database migration experience including SAP HANA and cutover planning.
• Relevant SAP certifications in Basis, System Administration, HANA or S/4HANA.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and knowledge transfer capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior SAP Basis administration across complex SAP environments.
• Manage transports, system refreshes, monitoring and performance tuning.
• Support S/4HANA and HANA migration, upgrades and modernisation initiatives.
• Design high availability, backup, recovery and DR solutions.
• Collaborate with architects, security teams and project stakeholders.
• Develop documentation and mentoring for internal teams.

• 12-month contract, with potential extensions of up to a further 24 months

Role

Join a major government technology environment as a Senior SAP Technical Engineering Expert, supporting the stability, modernisation and transformation of a complex SAP landscape. You’ll play a key role in SAP Basis operations and the transition towards SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA, working alongside architects, engineers and project teams on critical enterprise platforms. This is an opportunity to apply deep SAP technical expertise while also helping build capability through mentoring and knowledge transfer.

Your duties will include:

• Provide senior SAP Basis administration and engineering across complex SAP environments, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades and lifecycle management.
• Manage SAP transports, system refreshes, monitoring, performance optimisation and complex technical troubleshooting.
• Support SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA migration, technical conversion, modernisation and transformation initiatives.
• Design and support high availability, backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions across SAP platforms.
• Collaborate with architects, infrastructure engineers, security teams, vendors and project stakeholders to deliver complex SAP outcomes.
• Develop technical documentation, operational procedures and support models while mentoring internal teams and facilitating knowledge transfer.

Skills and experience we are looking for:

• Senior-level experience as an SAP Basis Administrator, SAP Basis Engineer or SAP Technical Engineering Expert within large and complex SAP environments.
• Strong technical expertise across SAP Basis, SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA, including system administration, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Demonstrated experience delivering SAP S/4HANA implementations, migrations, upgrades, technical conversions or modernisation programs.
• Proven experience with database migration and SAP HANA, including planning, testing, cutover and operational readiness.li>
• Relevant SAP certifications in SAP Basis, SAP System Administration, SAP HANA, SAP S/4HANA or equivalent technology disciplines.
• Strong technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, documentation and knowledge-transfer/mentoring capabilities; Australian Government experience, cloud/hybrid SAP and high-availability environments will be highly regarded.
