Job summary

Leaders is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Database Administrator) for hybrid work across Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne. The role focuses on enterprise DB modernization, upgrades, migrations, and operational support across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange, and MongoDB.

The successful candidate will ensure availability, performance, security, integrity, and resilience within a highly regulated government environment, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide expert database administration across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange, and MongoDB platforms.
• Plan, validate, and execute database upgrades, migrations, and optimisation activities.
• Lead MongoDB upgrade and migration initiatives with minimal service disruption.
• Monitor and optimise database performance, capacity, and availability.
• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Assess and mitigate technical, operational, and migration-related risks.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance throughout all DB activities.
• Support databases within containerised environments.
• Collaborate with infra, application, and security teams during project delivery.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation and implementation plans.

About the Role

This federal goverment clientis seeking experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineers with specialist database administration expertise to support critical enterprise database modernization, upgrade, migration, and operational support activities.

The successful candidate will provide advanced technical support across Microsoft SQL Server, IBM Db2 z/OS, IBM Db2 Midrange, and MongoDB environments, with an immediate focus on MongoDB upgrade and migration initiatives. Working within a complex enterprise environment, you will ensure database availability, performance, security, integrity, and resilience while supporting agency-wide infrastructure transformation programs.
This role requires close collaboration with technical teams, adherence to enterprise change management practices, and the ability to deliver outcomes in highly regulated government environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert database administration across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS, Db2 Midrange, and MongoDB platforms.
• Plan, validate, and execute database upgrades, migrations, and optimisation activities.
• Lead MongoDB upgrade and migration initiatives, ensuring minimal service disruption.
• Monitor and optimise database performance, capacity, and availability.
• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.

• Ensure data consistency, integrity, security, and compliance throughout all database activities.
• Support database technologies deployed within containerised environments.

• Provide knowledge transfer and capability uplift to internal APS staff.
• Participate in after-hours implementation activities and incident resolution when required.

Candidates must demonstrate:

• Expert-level Microsoft SQL Server administration including performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, security, and operational support.
• Expert-level IBM Db2 z/OS administration in large enterprise environments.
• Expert-level IBM Db2 Midrange administration including performance monitoring and recovery capabilities.
• Expert-level MongoDB administration including replication, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and operational support.
• Experience supporting database platforms in containerised environments and managing associated deployment risks.
• Proven ability to plan and deliver controlled database upgrades and migrations while maintaining service continuity and data integrity.

Desirable Experience

• Experience within Federal Government or large-scale enterprise ICT environments.
• Exposure to enterprise change management and ITIL-based operational environments.
• Experience delivering technical documentation, knowledge transfer, and mentoring activities.
• Experience supporting large-scale database modernization programs.
