Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. Australia is seeking a Principal Hydraulic Engineer, Buildings, to lead hydraulic building services design across data centres, healthcare, defence, high-rise, education and refurbishments.

Based in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, you will guide projects from concept through construction and engage clients to grow our pipeline. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, ensure designs meet Australian Standards, mentor junior engineers, and help expand

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Engineering (or equivalent).
• Proven experience in hydraulic building services design within a consultancy environment.
• Strong technical understanding of design and construction processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects and make sound business decisions.
• Well-developed communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to prioritise, multitask, and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
• Ideally, you bring an existing industry network or the ability to build one quickly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop hydraulic building services designs, including water supply, sewerage, stormwater, and gas systems.
• Lead client‑facing project delivery from concept through to construction.
• Prepare technical documentation, designs, specifications, and tender packages.
• Undertake site inspections, defect reporting, and respond to RFIs during construction.
• Manage competing priorities to meet project deadlines and client expectations.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development.
• Ensure compliance with Australian Standards and Building Codes (support provided for NZ candidates transitioning to AU standards).
• Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
