Job summary

Private Advertiser is seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Design Engineer to lead a small team of engineers and draftspeople in Melbourne. You will design and deliver HVAC systems for commercial buildings, ensuring compliance with NCC and AS/NZS standards, while managing technical quality and project budgets.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with contractors and clients, and stay abreast of emerging HVAC technologies to drive energy efficiency and cost savings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5+ years' professional experience in HVAC design and engineering.
• Experience in HVAC design including chiller systems, boilers, ventilation, ductwork design and controls.
• Strong knowledge of Australian building codes, NCC/AS/NZS standards.
• Professional engineering registration or eligibility for CPEng with Engineers Australia.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated leadership capability and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop comprehensive HVAC systems for commercial buildings, ensuring compliance with relevant building codes and energy efficiency standards.
• Lead the technical evaluation of HVAC system performance, troubleshooting complex issues and implementing corrective solutions.
• Collaborate with builders, contractors and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of HVAC systems within building designs.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring adherence to quality standards.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, drawings and documentation for HVAC projects.
• Perform energy audits and optimisation studies to enhance system efficiency and reduce operational costs.
• Stay current with emerging HVAC technologies, industry standards and best practices, providing recommendations for system improvements.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver solutions that meet their specifications and budget constraints.
