Job summary

KBR is seeking an experienced Senior Secondary and Protection Design Engineer to join our national Power team in Melbourne. You will lead the design of HV substations and protection systems for major rail and energy projects, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

You’ll perform power system studies, develop drawings and settings, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to bid support and delivery across Melbourne and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering accredited by the Washington Accord or recognized equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status or eligibility (CPEng/RPEQ/RPEV) within 6 months.
• Proven consulting/design experience delivering for Transport clients.
• Proven experience leading teams on complex projects.
• Strong depth in protection and control design, AC/DC auxiliary systems, SCADA, and secondary studies.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV substation secondary design including protection, control, SCADA, and AC/DC systems (1kV–132kV+).
• Undertake power system studies: protection coordination, load flow, short-circuit, arc flash hazards.
• Develop protection drawings, SLDs, wiring diagrams and control logic.
• Size CT/VT and prepare protection relay settings and reports.
• Coordinate with clients, utilities, contractors and suppliers throughout design and delivery.
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and support proposals.
