Job summary

NextDC in Sydney is seeking an experienced HV Engineer to provide national technical leadership across our HV network for hyperscale data centres. You will own HV operating policy, ensure AS/NZS compliance and collaborate with utilities.

Based in Sydney, the role works across NEXTDC’s national portfolio delivering safe, reliable, and scalable power infrastructure. The successful candidate will lead HV testing, commissioning and fault response, while aligning with regulators and network operators

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience with HV electrical systems in mission-critical environments.
• Deep knowledge of HV distribution, substations, GIS, RMUs, protection systems.
• HV authorisations and electrical licences.
• Strong knowledge of AS/NZS standards and electrical safety rules.
• Experience developing HV operating policies and switching procedures.
• Proven design-review capability to identify risks before construction.
• Experience with protection coordination studies and relay settings.
• Stakeholder engagement with utilities and regulators on HV interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain NEXTDC’s HV operating policy across the voltage hierarchy.
• Ensure HV systems and equipment meet AS/NZS standards and safety legislation.
• Develop HV switching programs, protection studies, and RMU procedures.
• Maintain relationships with network operators and utility stakeholders.
• Provide specialist review of new HV infrastructure and transformer sizing.
• Provide SME support across HV testing, commissioning and fault response.
• Support regulatory alignment across state and federal requirements.
