Job summary

Biosis Australia is seeking a Senior Heritage Consultant (or experienced Heritage Consultant ready to step into a senior role) to join our Sydney team in a permanent basis, applying expertise to Aboriginal and historical archaeology across diverse projects.

You will contribute to fieldwork, project management, client liaison, and reporting, with independence encouraged through mentoring and collaboration. The role requires archaeology qualifications and 3-5+ years’ experience.

Qualifications

• Archaeology degree (Honours) or Masters in Archaeology.
• 3-5+ years’ experience in heritage/archaeology.
• Demonstrated interest in Aboriginal archaeology and heritage.
• Ability to work on site, away from home and in remote locations if necessary.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Current and valid driver’s licence.
• Right to work in Australia to apply for this job.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to fieldwork projects across Aboriginal and historical archaeology.
• Participate in project teams and project management.
• Report writing and understanding different report types.
• Client liaison with relevant authorities, communities, landowners and the public.
• Deliver projects on time and within budget, upholding Biosis’ standards.
• Understand current regulatory requirements and communicate implications to clients.

Biosis Australia is growing, and we’d love you to be part of it!

We are seeking a Senior Heritage Consultant, or an experienced Heritage Consultant ready to step into a senior-level role to join our Sydney team in a permanent basis, where you will apply your expertise to a diverse range of projects across both Aboriginal and historical archaeology. You will report to the Manager - Heritage (NSW).

You will play an active role in project work through participation in project teams, project management, fieldwork, and client liaison. Independence is encouraged through actively seeking mentoring and advice. Administrative duties include those incorporated as part of project work as well as additional duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• An understanding of site patterning, land and site formation processes on the locations and survival of artefacts for both Aboriginal sites.
• Lead and contribute to fieldwork projects across both Aboriginal archaeological projects.
• Demonstrated experience in communication and consultation with relevant authorities, communities, clients, landowners, and the public, in relation to own projects.
• Demonstrated experience in report writing and understand the different types of reports required.
• Deliver projects on time, within budget and meeting the client’s requirements. Understanding of and implementing Biosis' high standards.
• Understand the current regulatory requirements, their impact on our work and be able to explain to existing clients.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• An archaeology degree (Honours), or a Masters in Archaeology or similar.
• 3-5+ years’ experience.
• Demonstrated interest in Aboriginal archaeology and heritage.
• Relevant work experience in Aboriginal archaeology and heritage.
• Ability to work on site, away from home and in remote locations, if necessary.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• A current and valid driver’s licence.
