Job summary

Urbis is a multidisciplinary urban consultancy based in Perth seeking a Senior Consultant to lead built heritage and archaeology projects across Western Australia. You will deliver heritage assessments, impact studies and management plans while advising clients and stakeholders.

You will mentor junior team members, manage budgets and programs, build strong client relationships, and collaborate with planners, architects and engineers to deliver integrated outcomes that protect our shared history.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' professional experience in heritage consulting or related fields.
• Experience delivering heritage projects including assessments, management plans and due diligence studies.
• Strong knowledge of WA heritage legislation, policy and planning frameworks.
• Ability to mentor junior staff and manage multiple projects, budgets and timelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Consultant to join our growing Heritage team in our Perth office!

In this role, you'll provide strategic heritage and archaeology advice across a diverse range of projects, helping clients navigate built, historical and Aboriginal cultural heritage matters. From heritage assessments, impact studies and management plans to conservation advice and archaeological investigations, you'll contribute to meaningful projects that protect and celebrate Australia's shared history.

You'll apply your expertise in heritage planning, conservation and heritage legislation to deliver practical solutions, working alongside planners, architects, engineers and other specialists on complex, multidisciplinary projects. As a trusted member of the team, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality outcomes for clients, mentoring junior team members and supporting the continued growth of our Heritage practice.

You'll make an impact by:

• Leading and delivering a diverse range of built heritage and archaeology projects, including heritage assessments, impact assessments, management plans, conservation advice and due diligence studies.
• Providing strategic, practical advice on places of historic and Aboriginal cultural heritage significance across a variety of sectors and project types.
• Managing projects from proposal through to completion, ensuring high-quality outcomes that meet client, regulatory, budget and timeframe requirements.
• Preparing proposals, tenders, reports and client submissions while building and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Undertaking fieldwork, site inspections, surveys, stakeholder engagement and heritage investigations as required.
• Collaborating with planners, architects, engineers and other specialists to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary project outcomes.
• Mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continued growth and success of the Heritage team and broader business.

About you.

You may be a heritage consultant, archaeologist, historian, heritage architect, cultural heritage practitioner or heritage adviser with established experience delivering heritage projects and providing practical advice to clients and project teams.

We're looking for an experienced heritage professional who can take ownership of projects, build strong client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of our heritage practice. You'll be comfortable working across a varied portfolio and collaborating with specialists from across our planning, design, engagement and advisory teams.

We recognise that heritage professionals bring different backgrounds and areas of expertise. In addition to your own strengths, we're keen to hear from you if you bring the following experience and attributes:

• Tertiary qualifications in architecture, archaeology, history, cultural heritage, heritage conservation, anthropology, or a closely related discipline.
• 5+ years' professional experience in heritage consulting, cultural heritage management, heritage planning or conservation, preferably within a consultancy or multidisciplinary environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing and delivering heritage projects, including coordinating inputs, managing budgets and programs, and producing high-quality outcomes for clients.
• Strong experience in one or more areas of built heritage, Aboriginal cultural heritage, historical heritage, archaeology, conservation or interpretation, with an ability and interest in working across a broader heritage portfolio.
• Strong working knowledge of Western Australian heritage legislation, policy and statutory processes, including relevant Aboriginal cultural heritage, built heritage and planning frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake and oversee heritage research, assessments, site investigations and technical reporting, translating heritage values and constraints into clear and practical advice.
• Experience preparing and/or reviewing professional heritage documentation such as heritage assessments, cultural heritage management documentation and interpretation strategies.
• Strong project management and commercial skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, deadlines and client expectations.
• Confidence working directly with clients, government agencies, project teams and other stakeholders, providing clear and considered heritage advice.
• Experience contributing to proposals, tenders, business development and client relationships, with an ability to identify opportunities for new and repeat work.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and support junior heritage professionals, including reviewing work, sharing technical knowledge and providing constructive on-the-job guidance.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex heritage matters clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
• Comfortable working independently while also contributing to complex multidisciplinary projects alongside planners, architects, designers, archaeologists, historians and engagement specialists.
• A strong commitment to culturally respectful practice, including working appropriately with Aboriginal communities, Traditional Owners and knowledge holders and recognising the importance of Aboriginal cultural heritage and connection to Country.
• A willingness to undertake site work and travel throughout Western Australia as required.
