Job summary

Gallagher Bassett is seeking an experienced National Health & Safety Manager to lead and continuously improve our WHS approach across Australia. You will influence safety culture, drive compliance, and partner with leaders to create a safe and healthy workplace for our people.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will provide operational leadership across all aspects of Work Health and Safety, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Advanced Diploma or tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety.
• Proven experience as WHS/Health & Safety Manager in large/complex organisations.
• Knowledge of Australian WHS legislation.
• Experience implementing WHS programs and strategies.
• Experience with incident investigations and audits.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and continuously improve GB's WHS framework, programs and initiatives.
• Provide expert advice on WHS legislation, compliance obligations and best practice.
• Assist in the Return-to-Work process for employees.
• Review and maintain WHS policies and documentation.
• Conduct workplace risk assessments, audits and inspections.
• Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Deliver WHS training and contribute to eLearning content.
• Monitor safety performance and provide reporting and insights.
• Support managers and employees in managing workplace risks.
• Partner with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in safety and wellbeing.
• Develop and implement our Psychological Safety Framework.

Reporting into theChief People Officer, the National Health & Safety Manager will provide operational leadership across all aspects of Work Health and Safety (WHS). Working closely with leaders and employees, you will ensure compliance with legislative requirements while fostering a proactive and positive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain andcontinuously improve GB's WHS framework, programs, and initiatives.
• Provide expert advice and guidance on WHS legislation, compliance obligations and best practice.
• Assist in the Return-to-Work process for employees.
• Review and maintain WHS policies, procedures and documentation, ensuring they remain current and compliant.
• Conduct workplace risk assessments, audits and inspections to identify hazards and improvement opportunities in line with the established WHSMS.
• Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Deliver WHS training, education and awareness programs across the business, and contribute as an SME to building eLearns.
• Monitor safety performance, analyse trends and provide reporting and insights to stakeholders.
• Support managers and employees in managing workplace risks and promoting safe work practices.
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in health, safety, and wellbeing outcomes.
• Continue to develop and implement our Psychological Safety Framework.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
• Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager, WHS Manager or similar leadership role within a large or complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
• A Diploma, Advanced Diploma or tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experienceexecutingWHS strategies and programs.
• Strong incident investigation, risk management, and auditing capabilities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to use data to inform decisions.
